We are now revising the idea launched a few years ago.
As part of our efforts to support our community we wish to provide emergency wash supplies for people who are admitted to hospital at short notice but without personal hygiene items. The intention is to provide a few basic items to tide them over for a couple of days.
We are able to collect wash cloths, soap, small shampoos & shower-gels, toothbrush, toothpaste & a small pack of tissues. We shall pass these to Horizon Ward in Horsham Community Hospital where they are much appreciated. Please be aware that these items must be new and unopened to avoid infection risks. Likewise a part used bar cannot be passed to a patient.
Should you have any of these new items that you are willing to donate please bring them along to a meeting and we shall gather them together. We probably all have items that were well meaning gifts, but we are never going to use that wash product, it could now go to a good cause.
Or you may feel that to support this project you would be willing to buy the occasional extra item to your shop and bring that along.
A little research has shown how a few pennies can go a long way. Most supermarkets have a budget range that can provide soap, toothpastes or toothbrushes at bargain prices. Perhaps you can pop an extra one into your basket occasionally.
And of course there are always the lovely little complimentary bathroom extras to be had in hotels. Perfect.
This suggestion is being met with enthusiasm and appreciation from the hospital contacts, although they do advise that they are able to decant larger bottles of shampoo etc. into smaller containers.
Update In April 2016 we took our first delivery of about 35 bags to Brockham Ward where they were gratefully received. We returned again in July 2016 with another consignment of almost 40 bags. This delivery was most timely as our earlier bags had already been distributed.
Our final delivery for this year was at the end of November with another 40 bags being presented. This brings our total for this year to approx 120 bags.
December 2019 – several deliveries have been taken to East Surrey Hospital this year with the news that another 27 bags have been made up and are being delivered this month.
Thank you for supporting this initiative.
